States' exchange outreach, education budgets differ greatly

Insurers should keep a watchful eye on their states' financial expenditures, as this may be the best indicator of whether they will enroll large amounts of new consumers shopping on the health insurance exchanges.

Employers Eye Bare-Bones Health Plans Under New Law

Employers are increasingly recognizing they may be able to avoid certain penalties under the federal health law by offering very limited plans that can lack key benefits such as hospital coverage.
Benefits advisers and insurance brokers—bucking a commonly held expectation that the law would broadly enrich benefits—are pitching these low-benefit plans around the country. They cover minimal requirements such as preventive services, but often little more. Some of the plans wouldn't cover surgery, X-rays or prenatal care at all. Others will be paired with limited packages to cover additional services, for instance, $100 a day for a hospital

Preventive health company bringing physicals on-site works toward a $1.5M raise

While many large employers are going the route of on-site health clinics to save on health costs and encourage employees to become more engaged in their health, there are options for companies that can’t commit to a full, on-site clinic. One of those options is providing on-site preventive exams to their employees, and one company facilitating that, Pathfinder Health, is apparently looking to grow as it’s well on its way to completing a $1.5 million equity offering, according to a recent regulatory filing.

Again, House votes to repeal reform law

For the third time since early 2011, the House of Representatives approved legislation to fully repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
In a vote of 229 to 195, the lower chamber approved the bill from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), which has no chance of passing in the Senate.
"Today is a sham. It's a waste of time," Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) told Modern Healthcare moments after the vote. "If we're to do something, we ought to be doing jobs. But this is a Circus here. This is Groundhog Day what happened here today."
