Mobile clinics using telemedicine to deliver care to children face the same security challenges as those facing other healthcare delivery settings, says Jeb Weisman, CIO of the Children's Health Fund.
The non-profit provider of pediatric health services to the medically underserved recently launched a national initiative with the Verizon Foundation to deliver telehealth services via mobile clinics. The clinics are equipped with 4G broadband connectivity and upgraded telemedicine equipment.

CVS Pharmacies To Promote Health Insurance Exchanges

CVS Caremark, owner of the largest pharmacy chain in the U.S., is about to throw its weight behind Obamacare by helping to enroll people in the nation’s new health care exchanges, which are expected to be open for enrollment October 1.
Last week, CVS officials announced that they plan to use pharmacies at their 7,400 North American stores to help the uninsured learn about new coverage options — especially the subsidized insurance coverage available to low-income people on state-based insurance exchanges.

The Leapfrog Group, a coalition of employers seeking improved quality of care at lower prices, has introduced software to enable health care purchasers to see how much they spend unnecessarily because of medical errors in hospitals.
Also available with the Hidden Surcharge Calculator is a white paper from Leapfrog. The organization estimates that a patient admitted to a hospital with a safety grade of “C” or lower generates $7,780 in hidden surcharges because of errors.

State Medical Boards, HHS To Tackle Telemedicine, Licensing Rules

The Federation of State Medical Boards and HHS' Health Resources and Services Administration are collaborating to clarify regulations related to telemedicine and the mobility of physician licenses, Modern Physician reports.
The groups are working together to update the administration's license portability guidelines and to develop strategies aimed at protecting patients accessing telemedicine services, while not impeding the multistate practice of medicine.
