Study: Twitter useful for food tracking

A study published earlier this summer in the Journal of Medical Internet Research found that Twitter can help people capture dietary intake and behavior.
The data from the study was integrated into Eat It Tweet It, an app in the Apple App store created to integrate with Twitter and offer users a portal to tweet exclusively about their diet. The app, created at New Mexico State University, includes preset hashtags categorized as behavior or food and a camera feature to take a picture of the meal.

In a popularity contest of physician-only social networks, Doximity pulls ahead with 200K users

Oft referred to as LinkedIn for doctors, social networking site Doximity is boasting this week that it’s acquired its 200,000th member. That might not seem like a lot when compared to the 225 million members LinkedIn has signed up, but it’s almost a quarter of the 850,000 actively licensed physicians in the U.S., according to a 2010 census. And it’s more than another physician-only network, Sermo, who claims on its website to have 135,000 members.

Mobile Doctors CEO, physician arrested in alleged Medicare fraud scheme

The CEO and a physician at Mobile Doctors, a Chicago-based provider of physician house-call services in six states, were arrested in connection with an alleged Medicare fraud scheme involving upcoding for in-home visits and falsely certifying that patients were confined to their homes.
Dike Ajiri, 42, was charged with healthcare fraud and Dr. Banio Koroma, 63, was charged with making false statements related to healthcare benefits. Federal authorities are also executing warrants to seize almost $2.57 million from various bank accounts and to search the company's offices in Chicago, Detroit and Indianapolis. The company also operates in Phoenix; Flint, Mich.; San Antonio and Austin, Texas; and Kansas City and St. Louis, Mo.

Congress enacted the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to provide the means for uninsured Americans to purchase healthcare coverage. Despite many legal battles and slipped deadlines, the new healthcare insurance exchanges — also known as marketplaces — will begin open enrollment on Oct. 1, 2013. The law provides for three options: one, where states will create and run their own exchanges; two, where they will create a hybrid exchange run by both the state and federal government; and three, where the federal government creates and runs the exchanges for states that have opted out.
