But is this a game changer? Yes! Generally most social media statistics concerning the best times and days to post to the fan page are based on what the EAST coast is doing. Considering most of the US population lives there that’s understandable, but what if the population of your fan page doesn’t live on the east coast? You just had to figure it out on our own or purchase sometimes costly analytical tools.

Sure, some of you are already using Google+ a lot, and I’m not one to call it a ghost town, but I don’t think many would argue that it doesn’t get the level of use as Facebook. But if you knew for a fact that Google+ could directly help you rank better in Google’s search results, wouldn’t you dedicate more time to it?
It seems like only yesterday that Google was telling us that the +1 button had no direct effect on rankings. Actually, it was in October. “In the short term, we’re still going to have to study and see how good the signal is, so right now, there’s not really a direct effect where if you have a lot of +1s, you’ll rank higher,” Matt Cutts said in a Google Hangout back then.

CMS Grants to Fund Consumer Assistance Services When Buying Insurance

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has awarded grants totaling $67 million to fund “Navigator” positions in state health insurance exchanges.
The grants, to 105 applying entities in 34 states, are to hire and train Navigators, who will aid consumers applying for and selecting insurance through federally-facilitated insurance (built and operated by the feds) and exchanges that states are building in partnership with the federal government. The remaining states are building exchanges on their own with federal funds.

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Older patients may think they understand everything doctors tell them when they are released from the hospital, but a new U.S. study found several gaps in what they remember and areas where instructions could be clearer.
Out of nearly 400 patients discharged from a large academic medical center, 96 percent reported knowing why they had been hospitalized, but only about 60 percent could accurately describe their diagnoses, for instance.

Some say the exchanges are required by federal law to offer voter registration, while others say the law is unclear and that combining voter registration with insurance sign-ups would add major political difficulties to implementing the already-controversial healthcare reform law. Health insurance plans sold through state health insurance exchanges are likely to include limited choices of doctors and hospitals and require referrals for specialists and pre-authorization before expensive procedures, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The paper cited a McKinsey & Co. analysis that found 47 percent of 955 plans proposed for the insurance marketplaces early in the filing period were for health maintenance organizations (HMOs) or plans with similar designs. Other plans classified as preferred provider organizations (PPOs) also would restrict patient choice of doctors and hospitals.
Insurers interviewed for the article said they believe cost-conscious consumers shopping in the online marketplace will accept the tradeoff of less choice for lower premiums.

Altarum Institute: Higher healthcare prices unlikely

Healthcare prices are growing at historically low rates, according to new estimates from the Altarum Institute. And because of a revision to federal benchmark data, researchers estimate that the portion of the economy consumed by healthcare is less than previously thought. The percentage of the gross domestic product has averaged about 17.5% (rather than 18%) since the end of the recession, they now believe.
Spending on healthcare rose 4.3% from June 2012 to June 2013, about 0.8% faster than the pace of GDP growth. The institute's monthly briefs on health sector economic indicators suggest that weak growth in the industry is exerting pressure on prices even as economic growth has started to accelerate. Prices for hospitals and physician and clinical services each rose less than 2% over the 12 months through June, and prescription drug prices reported a year-over-year price drop of 0.1%.
