One goal of mobile healthcare technology is to move care outside the walls of traditional settings such as hospitals and physician offices. The shift certainly has begun, but it is far from complete.
“Point of care is not everywhere right now,” said Dr. Joseph Kvedar, director of the Center for Connected Health at Partners HealthCare in Boston. He moderated a session called “Point-of-Care, Everywhere,” Wednesday at the Digital Health Summit at CES in Las Vegas.

Eliminating fee-for-service models would significantly reduce healthcare costs, report says

The most significant way to drive down healthcare costs is by eliminating fee-for-service payment models, according to a report issued Wednesday (PDF) by the State Health Care Cost Containment Commission.
States must lead the way in coming up with creative, unique approaches to cutting costs, but moving towards a coordinated-care model should be a top priority for officials in every state, the panel concluded.

The American Telemedicine Association is seeking comment through Feb. 8 on an update to its "Core Standards for Telemedicine Operations," a document which attempts to offer best practices for providers to ensure quality of service to patients, and to promote reasonable and informed patient and provider expectations.
