Hospital residents do not consider Apple's iPad to be a valuable clinical rounding or educational tool, according to a study published in this month's Journal of Mobile Technology in Medicine, FierceMobileHealthcare reports.

During the 2011-2012 academic year, 102 medical and surgical residents at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Ohio were equipped with a 16 GB iPad 2 with wireless Internet capabilities.

What doctor shortage?

You've heard the grim prognosis many times before. Unless immediate action is taken, the U.S. supply of doctors will be 91,500 short of the number needed by 2020 and 130,600 physicians short by 2025, according to an Association of American Medical Colleges estimate.
Dr. Atul Grover, chief public policy officer at the AAMC, projects that the U.S. needs to train an additional 4,000 doctors a year to avoid a shortage, given the Obamacare insurance expansion, an aging physician workforce, shorter hours worked by younger physicians, and an aging population.

Navigator requirements threaten reform enrollment

Insurers could potentially see fewer enrollments if they sell plans on health insurance exchanges in certain states that are working to prevent consumers from learning about and accessing the marketplace.
Although the reform law established the new role of navigators to assist consumers with signing up for exchange plans, many states are blocking navigator efforts, reported The Atlantic. For example, Florida won't allow navigators to work in county health departments, while Texas mandated additional requirements for navigators, including that they must be fingerprinted, pay a state licensing fee and take extra coursework.
